Many people use Drupal to build platforms for Online Communities. In last years people from various projects, now as W3C group, started working on federation protocols to connect those isolated social islands. Some of you may have heard about development of projects like StatusNet, Diaspora or Appleseed.

Soon we hope that nodes running on Drupal, Elgg, BuddyPress etc. can also federatewith each other, no matter platform, to create smooth experience for people interacting through them. Work still under progress but we would present state of the art for the time of a session.
